In March 2024, the TVRI, through the Brewer Storefront, issued warning letters to 11 Texas school districts, including Lufkin Independent School District (LISD), alleging violations of the Voting Rights Act.

The Warning Letter:

One Hispanic opportunity district and one Black opportunity district can be drawn. About 44% of students are Hispanic, but there are no Hispanic trustees on the Board. On the 2023 STAAR exams, 41% of Hispanic students and 29% of African American students met grade level, compared to 64% of white students. Read the letter.
